Kuopio has traditionally been an old wooden town, and its largest surviving wooden town area is located in the city blocks between the Old Kuopio Museum and the Cathedral. Old Kuopio offers a rare opportunity to explore the wooden town quarters of the 18th and 19th centuries, which — together with their services and museum areas — invite visitors to experience the historical atmosphere of the city.
Participating venues in Old Kuopio Day:
- Old Kuopio Museum — several buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries
- Kuopio Club — 1880
- Old Rectory — 1776
- Kanttila — circa 1800
- School for Poor Girls — 1854
- Bishop’s House — 1856
